We make winter.
A Miami hockey apparel company for the warm-weather side of the game: goalies, D, forwards, and the rink parents who drive them at 5:40 a.m.
The founders
From bog hockey to Florida barns.
Tropical Hockey was started by two New Englanders who moved to South Florida. Brooke grew up skating on frozen Cape Cod cranberry bogs. Mike learned the game on frozen ponds in Rhode Island.
Both went on to compete as Division I college athletes: Brooke ran for an Ivy League championship team, and Mike played baseball at FIU. But hockey came first, and it has guided them through their professional careers. Both still have day jobs. Tropical Hockey is their passion.
Brooke earned her certificate in design at Parsons School of Design, where she studied design and brand development. Today Brooke and Mike are hockey parents in South Florida, and their weekends belong to the rink.
There's great hockey in Florida. Tropical Hockey is here to celebrate the players, families, beer leagues and big leagues that make it what it is, and to make the hockey clothes they always wanted.
88° in the parking lot. 55° at the glass. We design for both.
What we make
Four collections, one for each kind of person at the rink: Goalies Are Different, Blue Line Society for D, Top Shelf for forwards, and Morning Skate for the parents. Every piece is made to order, so nothing sits in a warehouse and nothing goes to waste. Teams and rinks can also get their own Chirper, our parrot, drawn in their colors.
More than shirts
We build free things for Florida hockey families:
- The Barn Book, a field guide to every ice rink in Florida
- Every team in Florida, from learn-to-play to juniors
- Florida hockey jobs, updated every day
- Fam-Made, small businesses run by hockey families
The name
Tropical Hockey™ is inspired in part by the 1938–39 Tropical Hockey League, Florida's first professional hockey league. Read the 1938 story.
